Skin Concern

Hyperpigmentation

Skin takes its colour from melanin. When pigment-producing cells are damaged or unsettled, melanin production changes and patches of darker skin appear. Pigmentation in melanin-rich skin is easy to worsen and slow to reverse, so our protocols prioritise prevention of rebound pigmentation as much as clearance.

What you may notice

  • Patches of darker skin
  • Marks left after spots
  • Symmetrical facial patches (melasma)
  • Uneven tone

Common causes

  • Sun exposure
  • Inflammation, irritation and injury
  • Melasma and pregnancy hormones
  • Insulin resistance and endocrine disease
  • Certain medications including chemotherapy drugs
  • Friction

Our approach

  1. 01Identify the driver before treating
  2. 02Prepare the skin with prescribed topicals
  3. 03Introduce peels, laser or LED phototherapy carefully
  4. 04Maintain with daily photoprotection

Typical timeline · Visible fading from 8–12 weeks; melasma needs ongoing maintenance.
