Skin Concern

Acne

Acne is triggered when pores clog with oil, bacteria and dead skin cells. It is most common on the face, back, neck, chest and shoulders, and it has hormonal, bacterial and inflammatory drivers. Treating it well means addressing all of them — and protecting the skin from the pigmentation that follows in deeper tones.

What you may notice

  • Whiteheads (closed clogged pores)
  • Blackheads (open clogged pores)
  • Small red, tender bumps (papules)
  • Pimples with pus at the tip (pustules)
  • Large, painful lumps under the skin (nodules)
  • Painful, pus-filled cystic lesions
  • Dark marks after healing

Common causes

  • Hormonal changes
  • Genetics
  • Diet
  • Stress
  • Certain medications
  • Environmental conditions
  • Excess sebum and follicular blockage
  • Occlusive products
