Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing)
Non-surgical fat reduction using controlled cold to break down localised fat bulges.
Overview
Stubborn fat on the arms, back, neck, under the chin, thighs, belly and flanks is not only a consequence of diet or lack of exercise — genetics and posture play a part too. Cryolipolysis is a non-surgical treatment that uses cold temperature to break down localised fat bulges in specific body areas.
What it helps with
- Stubborn fat pockets
- Love handles
- Lower abdomen
- Double chin
- Inner and outer thighs
How it works
Fat cells are more sensitive to cold than surrounding tissue, so controlled cooling crystallises and destroys them; the body then clears them naturally.
Suitability
- Not suitable with cold-related conditions such as cryoglobulinemia, cold urticaria or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria
- Not suitable for obese or significantly overweight patients
- Not performed over recent cuts, injuries, varicose or spider veins
The procedure
- 01A brief talk with the practitioner explaining the procedure
- 02You undress the treatment area and lie on the treatment bed
- 03A gel fleece and applicator are placed; the fatty bulge is suctioned into the applicator, giving a tugging sensation
- 04After an hour the applicator is removed, the area wiped and gently massaged
Preparation
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine
- Discontinue aspirin, ibuprofen and blood-thinning medications
- Use the bathroom before your appointment
Downtime
Little to none. The area may feel sore for a few days.
Expected results
Results are not immediate — expect visible fat reduction three to four months after treatment.
